The Annual Awards Dinner, held each summer, is the capstone event of the organization. The Dinner attracts hundreds of Washington's - and many of the world's - top policy shapers, decision makers, and trade experts. The Dinner provides an excellent opportunity for members to connect with other trade professionals, businesss leaders, and dignitaries in a relaxed and comfortable setting. Organized by WITA's sister organization, the Washington International Trade Foundation (WITF), the Awards Dinner is by far the biggest trade event of the year in Washington, DC.
The highlight of the evening is the presentation of our Lifetime Acheivement and Distinguished Service Awards to those indivduals who have made extraordinary contributions toward the facilitation of international trade. Past honorees (listed on PDF at bottom of this page) have included Congressmen, Senators, United States Trade Representatives, other cabinet level secretaries, and many other deserving trade leaders.
The newest tradition at the Dinner is the honoring of one our peers in the trade policy community with our Lighthouse Award. Kept secret until the night of the Dinner, the Lighthouse is awarded in recognition of the contributions the individual has made over the course of his/her career to trade policy, the understanding of global trade, or expanding the benefits of global trade. Prior recipients can be found in the PDF at the bottom of this page.
Other highlights include the pre-event cocktail reception in the gorgeous 8 story atrium of the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center; beer and wine from around the globe; post-event festivities with outrageous desserts, and our famous gift bags given to all attendees.
The Annual Dinner is packed with a 'Who's Who' of trade professionals--over 500 attendees each year. It's no wonder people call it the 'Trade Prom'!
